I have realised that a repeating problem in the Blind date columns is the phrase “it’s a school night” or “it’s a weekday”. Multiple questions are often answered with the same excuse, that they have to go to work/university/school drop‑off in the morning. This problem is very easily fixed. Surely the date could simply take place on a weekend so they can stay up late and actually enjoy themselves.

• There’s a simple way to deal with soap dispenses (Letters, 16 June). Don’t buy them. The plastic mechanism is a menace environmentally. Use bar soap, paper wrapped.

• The UK’s coolest city (Letters, 17 June) has to be Inverness, Perth or Aberdeen. Everyone knows that things get cooler the further north you go.
