First impressions?

What did you talk about?
Being bad vegetarians. Robert Pattinson’s stalker. What makes a good restaurant bathroom. Quality seaside experiences. Effective lighting.

Most awkward moment?
Probably when Hannah said she was behind me on the walk to the restaurant and saw me stop to talk to a cat.

Blind date is Saturday’s dating column: every week, two strangers are paired up for dinner and drinks, and then spill the beans to us, answering a set of questions. This runs, with a photograph we take of each dater before the date, in Saturday magazine (in the UK) and online at theguardian.com every Saturday. What questions will I be asked?
We ask about age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests and the type of person you are looking to meet. If you do not think these questions cover everything you would like to know, tell us what’s on your mind.

Can I choose who I match with?
No, it’s a blind date! But we do ask you a bit about your interests, preferences, etc – the more you tell us, the better the match is likely to be.

Can I pick the photograph?
No, but don't worry: we'll choose the nicest ones.

What personal details will appear?
Your first name, job and age.

How should I answer?
Honestly but respectfully. Be mindful of how it will read to your date, and that Blind date reaches a large audience, in print and online.

Will I see the other person’s answers?
No. We may edit yours and theirs for a range of reasons, including length, and we may ask you for more details.

Will you find me The One?
We’ll try! Marriage! Babies!

Can I do it in my home town?
Only if it’s in the UK. Many of our applicants live in London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.

Good table manners?
Great, as much as the Guardian tried to screw us by sending us to a taco place.

Best thing about Hannah?
She is kind and personable. She asked the waiter his name and complimented the singer at the bar we went to. I loved that.

In a heartbeat.

Interesting, thoughtful, warm.

What do you think Hannah made of you?
Hopefully reasonably funny. She said I looked a bit like Jude Law at one point, which doesn’t hurt.

Did you go on somewhere?
To a bar with the maddest Tuesday night vibe I have ever encountered.

And … did you kiss?
A little one on the train home.

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
We really wanted to figure out what a woman’s tattoo said and didn’t get to, so I’d change that just to satisfy our curiosity.

Would you meet again?
We want to go and see The Drama before it leaves cinemas …

What were you hoping for?
The best experience of my life. I’m a longtime reader, first-time caller.

First impressions?
On the way I was 15 steps behind a man who I thought could be Josh when he paused to interact with a street cat. (I had put animal friendly as my preference for my date.)

What did you talk about?
Living in London (I’m Australian, he’s Irish). Music (we love you Nick Cave). Our shared love of Japan. I pitched my business proposal – bath and brew, a communal washing space so you can bathe and share a drink with a friend.

Most awkward moment?
When we were the last table left we thought we’d better move on.

Good table manners?
The best, we ate with our hands.

Best thing about Josh?
His kind, creative and genuine nature.

Absolutely.
