Noise levels at inaugural Spanish Grand Prix tests
• An article said tests for the inaugural Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid yielded noise levels “at almost twice the legal decibel limit”. The average noise level was 102.7 decibels with the maximum noise level permitted in residential areas being 55 decibels. However, the decibel scale is logarithmic, where an increase of 10 decibels reflects an approximate doubling of loudness (Noise levels during tests at new Madrid F1 circuit nearly double legal limit, 1 September, p24).
