Irish actor, who had first amputation after football injury, reveals new wheelchair in TikTok video

The actor and The Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd has announced that she is recovering after a second leg amputation operation.

The 29-year-old Irish performer had her first amputation six years ago after injuring her foot playing football as a teenager, which led to years of surgeries and chronic pain.

On Wednesday, Codd posted a video on TikTok revealing she had now had the same operation on her left leg.

She said: “Hi guys. So, I have some good news and some bad news. Good news, we’ve had a full circle moment. I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house. Bad news, I can’t do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper any more, due to the fact that that room is upstairs.

“I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation. So, unfortunately, those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time. So a lot to unpack there for everyone involved.”

Codd also showed off her new wheelchair, which she said she had named “Fat Tony”. “This is my new whip,” she joked. In the caption, she added: “No legs who dis? #paralympics2026.”

In a recent interview on the YouTube channel FFTV, the actor said she had already had all her toes removed in 2021 due to the impact of using crutches for eight years.

She said she had been told by doctors her foot was “never going to get any better” and that it had made it “more difficult” for her to work and perform.

“It’s just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end,” she said. “It’s gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it.”

Codd also detailed the recovery process, saying she would have to spend at least a month waiting for the limb to heal before she could have a prosthetic.

The actor built a following on TikTok during the Covid pandemic, when she began posting comedy sketches and highlighting disability awareness.

She has starred in Netflix horror series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.

She appeared in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors earlier this year, but was “murdered” by the traitors in episode four after correctly naming Jonathan Ross as a traitor at the round table.
