TV tonight: hit British comedy Ghosts gets a fun new twist
The Australian version of the sitcom is every bit as entertaining! Plus, get ready to belt out Bonnie Tyler’s best hits. Here’s what to watch this evening
Ghosts Australia
10.30pm, BBC Three
Buy a mouldy flat with a toilet in the kitchen or move into the rundown mansion of a dead great-uncle? It’s a no-brainer for couple Kate and Sean in this Oz version of the hit British sitcom. But as fans of the original show already know, their home is riddled with ghosts, which only Kate can see after a near-death experience. A new batch of ghost characters add a fresh spin on a firm comedy favourite. Hollie Richardson
Alan Carr’s Picture Slam
6.40pm, BBC One
The new series of the picture quiz where contestants have to identify a range of snaps continues. Three teams are competing for the cash prize of £10k, including Alan Carr superfans Lucy and Sharon. They tell the comedian to “check the bins” when he gets home after the show. He looks scared. Priya Elan
Bonnie Tyler at the BBC
8.30pm, BBC Two
The husky-voiced powerhouse died earlier this month, so here are the belting songs that made her a Welsh legend over a five-decade career. Sing along to archive performances of hits from Lost in France to Loving You Is a Dirty Job and Holding Out for a Hero. But save your lungs for the Total Eclipse of the Heart finale. HR
The Sentinels
9pm, BBC Four
A double bill of the sombre French world war one drama about super-soldiers forced to put country over family. After losing a comrade, the remaining three Sentinels are ready to blow off some steam. Meanwhile, Irène’s investigations into dodgy military dealings point her toward the fleshpots of northern Paris. Graeme Virtue
The Staircase
9.15pm, ITV1
Colin Firth and Toni Collette’s true-crime drama first aired on Sky back in 2022. Michael Peterson called 911 to report finding his wife Kathleen’s body at the bottom of their stairs at home. But he immediately became a suspect, and the first episode shows flashbacks to what their relationship was really like. HR
Schitt’s Creek
11.45pm, BBC Three
A triple bill of the much-loved Canadian sitcom that gave the late, great Catherine O’Hara a second wind. First up, Moira (O’Hara) and Johnny (Eugene Levy) go bargain hunting at an estate sale, while Alexis (Annie Murphy) tries to hide the fact that she can’t ride a bike. Hannah J Davies
Film choice
Lurker, 6.15pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
At first sight, Alex Russell’s intense drama is about a pop singer stalked by an obsessive fan. Théodore Pellerin’s LA clothes shop worker Matthew talks himself into the entourage of the apparently easy-going Oliver (Archie Madekwe), a British musician on the up. As he sidles from obsequious gofer to would-be documentary profiler, Matthew’s neediness is embarrassing going on excruciating – but it also flatters Oliver. And as their relationship develops over weeks, the power balance between them shifts drastically. Simon Wardell
Monster, 10.25pm, BBC Four
Japanese film-maker Hirokazu Kore-eda has long been a brilliant illuminator of children’s fractured, often inarticulated lives. This 2023 Cannes winner is another compelling look into their inner worlds, framed as an episodic mystery. First, we see events from the point of view of Sakura Ando’s single mother Saori, who thinks her son Minato (Sōya Kurokawa) is being bullied by his teacher, Mr Hori (Eita Nagayama). But then we get Hori’s side of the story and, crucially, Minato’s; what emerges is a heartbreaking tale of friendship and difference. SW
